If someone truly loved you, I'd expect them to tell you that more than once a year. And not through a card from the Hema or V&D that you bought for less than a euro along with a box of cheap chocolates you picked up at Etos.
Not only would you want to hear it more than once, you'd like the person to tell you they love you by their own will. Hallmark shouldn't have to compel lovers to tell each other three simple words. When was the last time you wanted somebody to feel like they are forced to give you a gift?
Another thing, I thought Valentine's Day was for secret admirers to come out and express themselves. It wasn't meant to be an overly commercialised holiday. It wasn't meant to be a day on which 15 year old girls send roses to their friends to make them feel popular. It was meant for shy people to send anonymous notes to their crushes without having to feel like a stalker.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against sending cards and roses, especially not on Valentine's Day, but must the holiday really be promoted and commercialised so much? It seems to me that Valentine's Day is becoming a holiday like Christmas. Christmas used to be about spending time with family and friends, now it's all about having the prettiest lighting and the best presents. Valentine's Day will soon revolve around chocolates and teddy bears if it carries on like this. I mean, is it normal for a shoe store to have flashy hearts in their windows?
If you ask me, Valentine's Day is just yet another day for companies to cash in a little more. When really, it should be about anonymously declaring your love for someone. Without the help of Hallmark or cheap chocolates in paper boxes.
You guessed it, it's Valentine's Day soon. Three days to be exact. And at my school, it'll mainly be friends receiving cards and roses from other friends, or "nerds" receiving cards and roses from "cool" kids playing pranks. Which I might add is insanely pathetic.
Valentine's Day can bite me.

lollerz, you're right as always..
Ahw..:-(
You can;t hate Valentine's Day, Maxi! Wouldn't you like a card, dear, not a Hallmark but just a simple card saying 'I Love You'. Even if you think its crap one day of the year, other people use it as an excuse to be able to express their love to people, something they would usually not dare to do.
Too bad you hate it so much, I had such a nice idea, but I guess I'll leave you to it, sorry to bother you though :-(

I hate how everybody must make it so public. Seriously, I don't need to know who in my class is writing cards to.
The idea behind Valentine's Day is great, it's the companies that make me hate the day itself.
Very sorry to bash the bashing(A)but I cannot agree with you.
Sure, Valentine's Day was initially meant for secret admirers to send a card to their love without seeming a stalker. However, the commercialisation of it all changed this to be a general day of hugging and love; what is wrong with this? Sure, the decadence of the new concept is remarkable and the capitalist influence on a good idea. However, for someone who enjoys life and doesn't care about principle and standard rules of life, this shouldn't spoil the fun of it.
Also, you shouldn't mind not-real love to be showed; V-day is obviously not about this from the start, but it is a special day, which makes any type of exposing affection fine, not?
Another one remark; so-called cool kids sending so-called nerds is indeed stupid, but how is it that nerds or you care? I can't imagine one to give a crap if a prank rose is sent to you.
Valentine's Day is another day in the year which passes gradually, such as every day of that year. Don't make such a fuss of it; you seem not to like it, well think about that: you dislike the commercial part of it, which is easily ignored, as well is it not of any meaning if you take no notice of V-Day promotion, there's nothing to it.
Valentine's Day should be interpreted personally by everyone. Don't view it as some stupid publicity stunt. Throw your own party, on the basis Valentine's Day, or just let it pass as, say, May 26th. Which means nothing. Don't start a war against V-Day at least, it's pretty cool if you do what you see as the thing to do on that day.
Damn, that was long. But I like. :)
For some reason I kept reading D-Day =P. Especially with the "Don't start a war against V-Day"
But you make it sound as if I hate it much more than I really do. I don't hate Valentine's Day itself, I hate how people are because of it. I got asked today whether I "had a guy for Valentine's Day".. wtf?! As if I want a boyfriend just because it's the 14th.
As for the cool kids sending roses to nerds.. why I care? It's not that I really care, but it disturbs me how pathetic some people are. I've never received a rose, and to be honest, I don't think I want one.
But uhm back to you.. I remember somebody telling me a certain story about how embarrassing it was when they received a rose last year as a prank... =P Admit it, it's hard not to care.
I'm off to bed. Computer is finally fixed. Yay! All hail my brother.
If I had a boyfriend, I'd totally igonore V-day and then hug him to death at 15th Feb. Cause if you love/like some one, you don't really need a day to show/tell him/her that, right?
About the secret admirers,V-day is a good day for that, it only got way too commercial too be real fun. Don't get me wrong, I dont hate/ have something against it, I guess I just think it's over rated
